Brad Hawkinson scored the dramatic overtime game-winning goal tonight in front of a sold-out IceBox to propel the Lincoln Stars to a 3-2 OT victory over the Omaha Lancers.  The win snapped Omaha's five-game winning streak over the Stars this season.

The win improved Lincoln's record to 34-21-3 (71 points), good enough for third place in the USHL Western Conference.  Click here to view the current USHL standings.

I'll try to update this blog article tomorrow when I have more time.  I wanted to get something up tonight in case any fans out there wanted to leave comments.

Scoring for the Stars tonight was Luke Johnson (PP), Dominik Shine, and of course Brad Hawkinson.  Jackson Teichroeb had a tremendous game tonight, stopping 30 of 32 for his 13th win of the season.  When the Stars were playing timid in the third period, and Omaha was swarming, Teichroeb was a calming presence between the pipes.  He's a big reason why the Stars got the two points.

Big, big win tonight against a hungry Omaha club fighting to make the playoffs.  The Stars really helped themselves with the two points tonight to further distance themselves from the fifth-place Lancers, and the fourth-place Waterloo Blackhawks (who lost 4-1 tonight to the Dubuque Fighting Saints).

Enjoy the win, folks!  Go Stars!

That is one hell of a picture. Captures the feel of that goal coming off a penalty to steal a win perfectly. Lyons looks defeated completely with the ref signalling the goal.

Stars' magic number is now 9 points. Any combination of the Stars gaining points and the Lancers dropping points that adds up to 9 will clinch a playoff spot! With two games left against Omaha, we can take care of 8 of those points with two wins.
