With the loss, the Stars fell to 15-7-3 (33 points) and dropped to fourth place in the USHL Western Conference. After winning their first five road games of the season, the Stars are 2-6-0 in their last eight road games. Click here to view the current USHL standings.
This is going to be a very, very quick recap. I only listened to the radio broadcast so I couldn't see how well they played. From the sounds of it, it wasn't that "well."
Stars scored two early goals in the first period with tallies from Vinni Lettieri and Michael Bunn. After that, the wheels simply fell off. The Bucs went on a tear, scoring six unanswered goals (including one empty-netter) to win this one convincingly.
This was the second straight loss for the Stars in which they had a lead at the first intermission. They'll have to figure out very quickly how to play with a lead and keep it.
Jackson Teichroeb stopped 18 of 23 shots in the loss. I'm still scratching my head why Michael Bitzer didn't get the start tonight. In my opinion, you stick with your hot goaltender, and since Bitzer beat the Bucs last night, you start him again tonight. But what do I know. I'm just an idiot with a blog.
As a friend of mine said tonight on Twitter, the Stars have been consistently inconsistent as of late. Hopefully the team can break out of this up and down play after the holiday break.
Lincoln will be back in action next Friday night in Kearney where they will take on the Tri-City Storm.
Happy holidays, everyone. Travel safe if you are out and about.
