Congrats to Michael Bitzer!

Lost in the excitement of yesterday's dramatic 3-2 overtime victory over the Tri-City Storm was the news that Lincoln Stars goaltender Michael Bitzer has committed to play college hockey at Bemidji State University.  Bitzer announced his commitment on Twitter yesterday (Friday) afternoon.  I'm going to post the tweet below:

Click here to read more about Bitzer's committment from "The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead" newspaper.

Bitzer was Lincoln's first draft selection in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft this past spring.  As a senior goaltender at Moorhead High School (MN), Bitzer led his team to a Section 8AA championship, and a long run in the Minnesota state high school hockey tournament.  After his high school season ended, Bitzer won the Frank Brimsek award, given to Minnesota's top senior goaltender.

Bitzer went 22-8-0 with a 1.80 goals against average and a .933 save percentage in 30 games during the 2011-12 season with Moorhead High School.

According to the first article I linked above, it's not yet known if Bitzer will attend Bemidji State in the fall of 2013, or 2014.  Former Stars defensemen Matt Prapavessis is currently a sophomore on the Bemidji State roster.

Congrats to Michael!  Very well deserved.  The Bemidji State University campus is only 2.5 hours away from Bitzer hometown of Moorhead, MN, so I'm sure he's excited to have friend and family close by to support him and watch his games.

We're all excited to see what Bitzer can do in a Lincoln Stars uniform before he moves on to Bemidji State!  Congrats again to Michael.
