The Lincoln Stars set a franchise record tonight with their fifth straight win to start the season, thanks to a thrilling 4-3 overtime shootout victory over the Fargo Force in front of 3,800+ fans at the IceBox.

With the win, the Stars improved to 5-0-0 (10 points) on the season, and are still tied for first place in the USHL Western Conference standings.  Lincoln is one of two teams who are still undefeated on the season.  The Dubuque Fighting Saints are 6-0-0 so far this season.  Click here to view the updated USHL standings.

Scoring for the Stars tonight was Mike McKee (powerplay), Brad Hawkinson (shorthanded) and Jake Wood.  Dominik Shine and Paul LaDue both scored in the overtime shootout to help the Stars cruise past the Force and earn the two points.  I will post video of the shootout below, courtesy of a friend of the blog.

Stars goaltender Jackson Teichroeb stopped 32 of 35 shots to record his third win of the season.  He also stopped three of four Fargo players in the shootout.  Personally, I think Teichroeb played one of his better games of the season and should have been on of the three stars of the game.  He definitely looks like a brand new goaltender this season.

Both teams went 1-for-4 on the powerplay, but the Stars won the special teams war thanks to Brad Hawkinson's clutch shorthanded goal late in the second period.

I will try to update this article tomorrow (Saturday) morning with a full recap.  I wanted to get this article up quickly tonight in case anyone out there wanted to leave a comment.  Feel free to leave a comment below if you wish.  I've love to hear your opinions of the big win tonight!

The Stars are back at it against the Fargo Force once again tomorrow night at the IceBox!  Another opportunity to remain undefeated!

Go Stars.
