2012 Lincoln Stars Tryout Camp: All-Star Game (First)

Getting caught up with the all-star game recaps today, so bear with me as I get them posted.  The first camp all-star game featured some of the younger drafted players by the Stars, and also a number of non-drafted "free agents" who impressed the coaches during the prior camp scrimmages.

This game consisted of two, 30 minute halves.  Click here to view the roster sheet from the first all-star game.  Each squad (Blue and White) had two goaltenders, six defensemen, and eleven forwards.

Final:  Team White 4, Team Blue 3 (Shootout)
Both teams came out strong and played to a 2-2 tie at the end of the first half of the all-star game.  Scoring for Team White in the first half was forwards Denver Pierce and Ryan Norman.  Pierce's goal came on a Blue giveaway in front of the net and Pierce took advantage and buried the puck past Blue goaltender Robert Goor.  Ryan Norman's goal came after a scramble for the puck in the slot.  Norman was able to collect the puck and fire a wrister high stick side past Goor.

The two goals from Team Blue came from forwards Zach Zech and Anthony Uglem.  Zech was in the right place at the right time after a point shot from a Blue defender bounced off the back wall behind the White net.  The puck bounced to Zech was had an open net to shoot on past White goaltender Sean Healy.  Anthony Uglem's goal was a nice individual effort in which he skated into the White zone on an odd-man rush and fired the puck high stick side past Goor.

In the second half of this all-star game, both teams scored one goal a piece.  White's goal came after a very nice pass from forward Aidan Muir found a wide open Joshua Smith in the slot who wristed the puck high glove side past Blue goaltender Jake Ireland.  Blue's second half goal was scored by forward Joey Molinaro who jammed the puck past White goaltender Michael Santaguida during a goal-mouth scramble.

After the all-star game ended in regulation with a 3-3 tie, it went directly into a shootout.  Team White scored twice in the shootout while Team Blue only scored once.  Scoring for Team White in the shootout was Jack Suter and Mitchell Snyder.  The lone Blue shootout goal was scored by Zach Zech.  Video of the shootout is now below.

White goaltender Sean Healy started the first half of the all-star game and gave up two goals in regulation.  White netminder Michael Santaguida started the second half of the game and gave up one goal in regulation, and two goals in the shootout.  Blue goaltender Robert Goor started the first half of the all-star game and gave up two goals in regulation.  Blue netminder Jake Ireland started the second half of the game and gave up one regulation goal, and one shootout goal.

I'm going to give some love to two defensemen for my MVP's of each squad.  My Team White MVP goes to Parker Reno who really impressed me during this game, and during most of the camp.  He's only a '95, but he plays so cool, calm, and collected.  My MVP of Team Blue goes to d-man Derek O'Flynn.  I thought O'Flynn was one of the best players on the ice during this game.  He's big, physical, and solid in his own end. I was very surprised that Reno and O'Flynn weren't in the lineup for the second all-star game.  I thought both were very deserving.

Edit:  Here's video I took of the entire shootout.
