Congrats to Charles Williams!

Per the Lincoln Stars twitter account, goaltender Charles Williams III has committed to play college hockey for Ferris State University, starting the fall of 2012.  Click here to read the tweet.

Charles appeared in 32 regular season games for the Stars this season and put up some very impressive numbers.  CW3 sported a record of 20-4-3, four shutouts, a 2.61 goals against average, and a .907 save percentage.  In two playoff games for Lincoln, Chuck is 1-1-1 with a 1.91 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.  Charles was named "USHL Goaltender of the Week" in early October of 2011.

Chuck is originally from Canton, Michigan which is about three hours away from the Ferris State University campus in Big Rapids, Michigan.  I'm sure he is excited to be playing close to home so his family and friends can watch him live.

I was a big CW3 fan going back to the Stars' tryout camp last June in Minneapolis.  I didn't know much about him at the time (he was a free-agent invite), but he stood on his head and was by far the best goaltender at camp.  I believe he gave up only one goal during the entire camp.  He's battled for playing time this season with goaltender Jackson Teichroeb, but Charles has really elevated his game the past month or so and seems to be Lincoln's clear cut #1 goaltender in the playoffs.

Congrats to Charles!  I'm really happy that he'll be moving on to such a great hockey program.  Ferris State got all the way to the NCAA national championship game just a few weeks ago where they lost to powerhouse Boston College.  The Stars fan in me was hoping that Chuck might be back with the Stars next season, but I'm excited to see him move on to the next level and prove himself there.
