Former Star Chris Vande Velde to make NHL debut tonight

A quick note:

Former Lincoln Stars forward Chris Vande Velde is set to make his NHL debut tonight with the Edmonton Oilers when they take on the Phoenix Coyotes in Edmonton, Alberta.  Click here and here to read more.  Vande Velde was a 4th round draft pick of the Oilers in the 2005 NHL entry draft.  From the articles I have read, the Oilers have been hit hard by injuries, so Vande Velde and a couple of other players have been called up from the Oilers AHL farm team, the Oklahoma City Barons.

Vande Velde played 63 regular season games for the Lincoln Stars over two seasons (2004-2006).  Click here to view his USHL statistics.  After his time with the Stars, Vande Velde moved on to play collegiate hockey for the University of North Dakota.  In four seasons with the Fighting Sioux, Vande Velde scored 117 points (52 goals, 114 assists) in 166 games.

Congrats to Chris!  Always nice to see another Stars alumni in the NHL.
