I want to apologize for not getting a recap article up for the Fargo game this past Friday night. It was a busy holiday weekend, and I did not have a lot of time in front of a PC.

The Lincoln Stars lost Friday night (11/26) to the Fargo Force, 6-2. Click here to see the Pointstreak boxscore.  The Force got off to a very quick 2-0 lead, and never looked back.  Whenever the Stars scored in this game, the Force came right back and scored goals about a minute later.  Lincoln forwards Eric Scheid and Garrett Peterson scored the two goals for the Stars.  Lukas Hafner started between the pipes for Lincoln, but was pulled in the first period after surrendering 3 goals on 10 shots on net.  Kevin Murdock entered the game in relief of Hafner and stopped 14 of 16 shots, as Fargo scored an empty-netter late in the matchup.  With the loss, the Stars dropped to 9-7-0 (18 points) and are now in 5th place in the tightly contested USHL Western Conference.

The Stars seemed to have fatigued a bit last week, which is understandable considering they played three game in three consecutive nights.  Head Coach Chad Johnson mentioned after the Fargo game that the Stars would work on conditioning this week in practice, since the Stars will also play three games in three consecutive nights this week as well.  The Stars will return to action this Friday night at the IceBox when they will host Team USA U-17.  On Saturday night, the Stars will travel to Iowa to take on the Des Moines Buccaneers.  On Sunday evening, the Stars will once again faceoff against rival Omaha Lancers at the Civic Auditorium in Omaha.  I will post a weekend preview article highlighting these games later in the week.

Stars defenseman Matt Prapavessis will be out of the lineup indefinitely as he is recovering from a concussion suffered in practice.  Concussions can be a very tricky injury, depending on the severity.  Chad Johnson mentioned on the radio last week that it could be until after Christmas until he is healthy enough to play again. Tough break for sure, especially considering how well Matt was playing this season, and how well he was running the Stars' powerplay.

Former Lincoln Stars defenseman Colby Cohen was traded Monday from the Colorado Avalanche to the Boston Bruins.  Click here to read more.

Lincoln Stars futures draft pick Brad Hawkinson ('94) has committed to play collegiate hockey for the University of Denver, starting the fall of 2013.  Brad played three regular season games for the Stars early this season before being sent back to play for his team (Colorado Thunderbirds U-18) in CO.  Congrats to Brad on the commitment to DU!  Click here to read more from the Denver Post.  The "LetsGoDU" hockey blog has even more on this story.  Click here to read that article.

A couple of blog readers emailed me this article about former Stars goaltender David Reekie. Really interesting read and a few quotes from David. Always nice to hear that Reeks is still playing well at the collegiate level. Click here to read the article.

“Freshman Kyle Gibbons scored with 1:01 left in overtime to lead the Canisius College hockey team to a 3-2 victory over nationally-ranked Robert Morris on Saturday." Click here to read the article.  Click here to watch a video of Gibbons talking about his game winning goal.

Former Stars forward Stephen Schultz is "putting on a show" this season playing for the Colorado College Tigers.  Click here to read the article.

Former Stars and current University of North Dakota forward Jason Gregoire is featured here in a video interview from last week.  Gregoire talks about UND's split with UNO two weeks ago, and their now completed matchup with Notre Dame.  Click play below to watch the video.  In Friday night's game, Gregoire scored two goals and one assist to lead the Sioux to a 6-3 victory over the Fighting Irish.  Former Stars forward David Gerths scored one goal for Notre Dame in that game.
