Matt Prapavessis Commits to Bemidji State University

Thanks to the blog reader who emailed me this information.

Lincoln Stars defenseman Matt Prapavessis, a native of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, has recently committed to play collegiate hockey at Bemidji State University.  Matt is a first-year player for the Stars, having played last season for the Mississauga Chargers of the OJAHL.

Through six games for Lincoln this season, Matt has scored 4 points (2g, 2a), and is +2.  Both of his goals have come on the powerplay.  Matt is the definition of a "powerplay quarterback."  Prapavessis is more of an offensive-defenseman, but he is more than capable of being a shut-down defenseman also, which is evident in his plus/minus.

Bemidji State University has a very good hockey program that plays in the WCHA against teams such as the University of Minnesota, Univ. of Michigan, North Dakota Univ., and UNO.  Congrats to Matt....and Go Beavers!

That didn't take long. Not surprising. He was a player who really came in under the radar at tryouts and looked very good. He's a very talented offensive defenseman. Congrats to Matt!

Glad you brought that up, BT. I remember talking to you at tryouts, and you were really big on Prapavessis at the time. I didn't really notice him that much the first day, but once you brought him up in conversation, I made sure I watched his shifts after that. I think we were in agreement after the tryouts that he would be a shoe-in to make the final roster. As an undrafted newcomer, he impressed enough folks at tryouts to earn a spot on the team.

I'm looking forward to watching him this season, especially on the powerplay. The Stars have lacked a true PP quarterback at defense the past couple of seasons. You can see results already, as the Stars are the top powerplay team in the USHL. I've said it already, but I think Matt is a big reason why they are ranked #1 on the PP.

When I interviewed Chad after camp Matt was one of the players he mentioned stood out to him, nice that he is living up to expectations. Seen too many players fall flat.

Another thing I noticed is that Matt is ALWAYS out there! I mean does he ever take a shift off? And he is all over the place playing D and getting some offense in there. Really enjoyed watching him last weekend. Congrats!
