Steve Johnson to leave Fargo for college position

Looks like the rumors of Steve Johnson leaving Fargo are indeed true.  The Fargo Force stated today that Steve Johnson is resigning from his position as head coach of the Force to take an assistant coaching position at St. Cloud State University.

Wow.

Edit:  Thanks to "lincolnfan" for this link.  According to the following blog article, Chad Johnson and Andy Schneider aren't going anywhere.  Click here to read the article.  Here's the quote:
Lincoln Stars fans can rest easy, Head Coach Chad Johnson and Assistant Coach Andy Schneider are staying in Lincoln and will not be coaching in Fargo this season. Meanwhile, the Fargo Force have officlally announced that Steve Johnson has left the team to join the St. Cloud State Huskies of the WCHA, which should make for some interesting matchups with the Sioux this year.  Apologies to the faithful readers.  I used a source that had been 100% accurate in the past but was only half right in this scenario.

Interesting. Do we need to start sweating having our coach swiped out from underneath of us before ever coaching a single game?

Doesn't look good for us.

Rumors floating around that Chad Johnson will leave his position with the Stars to take the position vacated by his older brother with the Fargo Force. The article below states that Chad would take assistant coach Andy Schneider with him. Copy and past the link below to read more:

Folks, I don't what to believe at this point.

I don't like where this is headed, but it sounds like we just got absolutely screwed.

as always, the Black and Blue Blog is here to provide you with the latest, most up-to-date information. We'll break the story as it develops

:)

Absolutely not. We need to retain Luke Johnson's rights until he's 22 years old and ineligible for the USHL. He can go play in Canada for all I care.

If we bend over again for the Johnsons and trade him to Fargo, it better be for their best player and nothing less. We hold a helluva lot of bargaining power in that scenario.

should be interesting tonight to have Andy be the quest speaker, can't wait for this.

"So, I'll take any questions now"

"Andy, do you need help packing for Fargo tonight?"

Just a reminder, there's no reason for name-calling. If I see it, I'm deleting it. That simple.

well if there's any positive, at least the whole team isn't even here practicing yet, so really none of Chad's coaching philosophy is in place yet.

We can't have the same philosophy as we did last year, if so heaven help the STARS

From an outsider, I would be surprised to see Chad leave Lincoln at this point in time. When Chad left Fargo, Steve hired Byron Pool as the new associate head coach. He was formerly the head coach of Bismarck Bobcats of NAHL. I would guess he will be Steve's replacement in Fargo.

what? Chad would go to Fargo? the organization he just left? and take Andy Schneider with him? wow... UNBELIEVABLE! i hope this isn't true, but from the sounds of it, it all very well could be... and if it is true, to say that the Stars organization has been extremely screwed over would be an understatement. if Chad DOES leave Lincoln, who would replace him? i can't see Jim Pflug giving McGroarty the position again.

That would be the worst thing for the players if they gave him the position back.

Get ready to trade Luke Johnson to Fargo for a seventh round pick and a 12 pack of beer!!

BellTolls said...

As I said before, if we don't hold on to Luke Johnson or at least trade him for something EXTREMELY valuable, then we are nuts.

we can rest easy... at least for now, according to this...

Thanks, Lincolnfan, for the post. Interesting. I can't help but wonder though now if they really want to be here...

How unfortunate for the Force. Having Steve leave there after committing to this year and being only a few weeks away from the Fall Classic doesn't say much about his level of committment. I am betting that Chad will be committed to Lincoln. Let's try not to attack Andy tonight.

I find this a bit confusing. Steve leaves Fargo to take Eric Rud's position who left to be the head coach of Green Bay. Rud left to advance his career. So what is Steve doing if being a head coach in the USHL is better than being an assistant coach in college?
I hope that those of you who went to the Booster Club meeting tonight that Andy was able to answer some questions for you all.

Heard it from Schneider himself tonight. Chad and Andy aren't going anywhere. They are committed to the Stars. That should put to rest all of the rumors, hopefully.

Had a good time at the BLBC meeting tonight. I'm hoping that more blog readers sign up to become members. Great group of people who work really hard.

Is Jimmy going anywhere?

No.

Just so folks are aware, if you're here to post a silly rumor, it's not happening. I'm deleting it right away. As far as I'm concerned, this story is done. Steve is leaving Fargo for St. Cloud State, Chad and Andy are staying in Lincoln. If you require further clarification, feel free to send me an email at: lincolnstarshockey@gmail.com
