B³ Pregame Report - Lincoln Stars vs. Tri-City Storm 9/16

The Lincoln Stars will open up their 2010-11 preseason schedule with a Thursday night matchup against the Tri-City Storm in Kearney, Nebraska.  Faceoff for the game, which will be held at the Viaero Event Center, will be at 7:05pm.  Tickets can be purchased ahead of time by calling the Viaero Event Center ticket office at (308) 338-8011.  You can also purchase tickets online at this link.  I'm planning on buying tickets when I get there, so you can do that also and maybe save some $$ on "processing" fees.   If you can't make it to this game, you can pay $10 and watch the game on your PC.  Click here to learn more about that.  I am unaware if Pointstreak will be updating this game on their website.  Last week, the Storm played the Omaha Lancers in Kearney, and Pointstreak followed that game, so I'm hoping that will be the case this Thursday night.

You can also listen to the game on your PC via "Storm Radio," but it will be a TC announcer.  Click here to go to the Storm website, and look for the "Listen Live to Storm Radio" link.

As I mentioned above, the Storm have already played one preseason game in which they lost 5-3 to the Omaha Lancers.  The Storm have been practicing together for a few weeks now, while the Stars will have had only three on-ice practices before the game against TC on Thursday night.  It might not be the most technically sound game you've ever seen, but it will still be hockey.  These preseason game are more for the coaches than they are for the fans.  The Stars will have to eventually cut down to 23 players, so these exhibition games are crucial for evaluating the talent they (the coaches) have on the bench.  I would not expect some of the more veteran players to participate in these games.  Don't be surprised if you don't see names like Peterson, Berge, Shine, and Dzingel in the lineup.

You can click here to see the projected preseason roster the Stars released on their website a few weeks ago.  There might be some players in uniform for the Stars in these preseason games who are not listed on that page that I linked above.  One new player in particular that I have learned about is defenseman Tyler Amburgey.  Amburgey is a former first round entry draft pick of the Waterloo Blackhawks.  Amburgey was traded from Waterloo to Tri-City before the season started last year.  Amburgey played 44 games for the Storm last season, scoring 6 goals and 5 assists along with 37 PIM's.  Amburgey is also a former member of the USNTDP (Team USA).  Tyler is a big (6'2", 215 pounds), stay-at-home defenseman who should add some much needed depth on the blueline for the Stars.  Just like all of the players, Amburgey will have to play well enough to earn a spot on the roster.

I'm really looking forward to this game.  I plan on using the B³ Twitter Page and my blackberry to update scoring as the game is being played.  If Pointstreak isn't covering this game, and you don't want to listen to the homer TC radio announcer, just go to our twitter page and hit refresh throughout the night to see live game updates.  I'll probably write up a quick post-game recap on Friday sometime during the day.

Hope to see a LOT of Stars fans in attendance this Thursday.  Sound off if you are planning on attending!  Go Stars!

I'm going but I'm not going to be wearing any Stars gear.

Thanks for letting us know, Hog Rider! That will probably make it easier to spot you in the crowd then.

I would like to go but we are working OT this week so I get off at 4:30. By the time I get home, take care of the dog, and get cleaned up, it will be 5:30. A 2 hour drive to Kearney and I will have missed the 1st period. Add to that the fact I have to be up at 5 and the 2 hour drive home, I am afraid I would be crap at work and that is not good. So guess I will make the best of it and listen to the Storm broadcast. GO STARS!

Bell Tolls, Glad I made it easier for everyone.:)
Its just my superstition where I don't wear my Stars stuff during exhibition games. Also once a year I don't wear a jersey, just a hooded sweatshirt.

That's awesome, Hog! That's a great idea for a blog subject: Stars Superstitions.
