B³ Pregame Report - Lincoln Stars vs. Omaha Lancers 9/18

The Lincoln Stars will play their second preseason game in three days Saturday evening when they faceoff against the Omaha Lancers at the Tranquility Moylan IcePlex in Omaha, NE.  Both teams have played one preseason game so far in September, each against the same team.  On 9/10/10, the Lancers beat the Tri-City Storm in Kearney by a score of 5-3.  Just yesterday (9/16/10) against the Storm, the Stars lost 3-2 in OT.  The puck will drop at 7:05pm.

When this game was announced, it surprised many hockey fans in the area that the game would be played at such a small venue.  Tranquility IcePlex has two sheets of ice, but very little in the way of seating for the number of fans who normally attend a Stars-Lancers battle.  Originally, the Lancers stated that only the first 1,000 fans who bought tickets would be allowed in to watch the game.  That has now changed within the last day.  If you read this article, the Lancers are now stating that only the first 850 fans who buy tickets will be allowed in.  Here's a quote from the article on the Lancers website:
The Moylan Tranquility IcePlex is located at 12550 West Maple Road in Omaha. The exhibition game between Omaha and Lincoln is scheduled to begin at 7:05 PM and all tickets are just $6. All tickets will be general admission and seating is limited to 850 patrons. Tickets will only be sold the day of the game and no advance ticket orders will be accepted. Cash payment is required for all purchases. Ticket sales will begin at 4 PM.
We've mentioned this before, but the Nebraska football team is playing the University of Washington on national TV that same afternoon, with kickoff occurring at 2:30pm.  The Omaha Lancers are holding a "Fan Fest" at Tranquility before the game, and that event runs from 4pm-6pm.  Tickets sales for this preseason game will begin at 4pm, so in order to guarantee you'll be one of the first 850 fans inside to watch this game, I would recommend you be at Tranquility no later than 4:30pm.  If you are planning on watching the whole football game in Lincoln, you may not be able to make it up to Omaha to buy tickets in time.  As stated above, the Lancers are not selling tickets to this game in advance.  I've already stated how I feel about this poorly planned event, so I'm just going to move on.

I am not planning on attending this game, so I would appreciate any feedback from the Stars fans who are planning on attending.  It appears that Pointstreak will be covering this game, so you can follow the game online if you are not planning on driving up to Omaha.  It does not appear that the Lancers or the Stars will have a radio broadcast of this game.  If that changes, I will let you know.

Go Stars.

Just ran across this website which states Brad Hawkinson, a '10 futures draft pick of the Stars, will be playing in the exhibition game tonight against the Lancers.

Click here to read the article.

Hawkinson ('94) is a 5'10", 170 pound forward from Colorado. Hawkinson played for the Colorado Thunderbirds last season, racking up 22 pts (8g, 14a) in 19 games.

Game will not be broadcast or live on Pointstreak. Moylan, like IBP, is not setup for B2, Pointstreak or radio broadcast.

Looks like the scratches for Lincoln are:

#3 Richie Coyne (D)
#16 Dominik Shine (F)
#18 Ryan Dzingel (F)
#19 Garrett Peterson (F)

Brad Hawkinson was reported to be playing for the Stars in this game, but I don't see him in the Pointstreak lineup.

GOOOOOAL!

Josh Berge scores with only two seconds remaining in the first period to tie it at 1-1. Assists went to Jake Lynes and John McCarron.

Stars are out-shooting the Lancers 10-9 at the first intermission.

Former Stars goaltender Matt Green, who was just recently traded from Tri-City to Youngstown, got the win today in the Phantoms victory over Team USA U-17. Green stopped 44 of 46 shots to record the win. Wow.

Congrats to Matt! So happy to see him get out of TC and find a home where he would be appreciated.

Looks like Pointstreak updated the shots on goal. Tied 11-11 at the first intermission.

15min remaining in the second period. Still tied up at 1-1. Lukas Hafner started in net for Lincoln.

Scratch that, Lincoln leads in shots 19-16. Pointstreak keeps changing the stats on me.

Yeti said...

Hahaha. Now they've changed it to 21-16 in shots. Every time I hit refresh, the stats change.

Wow. Andrew Schmit is racking up the penalty minutes so far. He has accumulated 24 PIM's so far (two misconducts and two minors).

Stars give up a PP goal. Ryan Daugherty scores for Omaha.

Stars up 3-2 with 13min remaining in the third period.

Brent Tate drops the gloves with Jake Downing. Blog reader in attendance said Tate got the win.

Fightfest all of a sudden.

Ben Oskroba scraps with Mitch Hughes of Omaha. According to our blog reader in attendance, Oskroba gets the win also.

Stars still up 3-2 in the third period.

Wow.

John McCarron fights Ryan Daugherty....Daugherty gets the win.

Getting really chippy. Your typical Stars-Lancers game.

Seth Ambroz scores again for the Lancers.

All tied up at 3-3

Sounds like an exciting game. It sounds like the Stars are playing very well given they only have practiced a few times. I wonder how many Stars fans made the trip to Omaha and if any got turned away?

Unrelated note, but the Blueline Booster website is reporting Meet the Stars will be the 29th at the North Heidelbergs. Was kinda hoping they'd find another place for it, a bigger place with more parking. Oh well, should be fun anyway.

Also, Muskegon lost 12-2 today to Indiana... yikes.

Hervey with a late penalty to Lincoln. Omaha has scored two PP goals so far. Hopefully the Stars can hold them here.

We're going to overtime. Tied 3-3. Second straight OT preseason game for the Stars.

Shots on goal:
Lincoln - 28
Omaha - 30

Omaha outshot Lincoln 14-7 in the third period.

Looks like Poinstreak gave the second assist on the goal by Jake Lynes to Jeff McMinimy, not Cole Martin.

Quick OT period.....going to a shootout!

lincolnfan said...

a little confused... Pointstreak is now showing another overtime period... but before it was showing a shootout in progress. what exactly happened? Do they not do shootouts in preseason games?

lincolnfan said...

nevermind, it's showing a shootout again and has it listed on the gamesheet. must have just been an error.

Stars WIN!!!!!

In the shootout, Josh Berge, Matt Prapavessis, and Eric Sheid all score to give Lincoln the overtime victory!

Big, preseason win against Omaha! I'll be writing a postgame report, soon. Hope to hear from all the Stars fans who were there tonight!

feels good to beat the Lancers, even if just in exhibition. It's a new year!!!

lincolnfan said...

woohoo!! even though it's just an exhibition game, it definitely gives something to look forward to for the new season... especially since it seems like a number of new players are really standing out.. we're not going to have to solely rely on all of our returning players..... can't wait to be back at the Ice Box!!

In the second fight sure hope Ben Oskroba is ok ...looked like when he went off the ice he had a broken nose. Always exciting but never like to see one of the boys get hurt.....Seeya all up in Sioux City for some fun!!
