B³ Linkorama

We're less than 48 hours away from the start of the Lincoln Stars 2010-11 regular season, and I want to briefly hit on a number of topics in this article before I write up a preview article for the Tri-City game tomorrow night.  I'm also considering writing our own "Meet the Stars" article to introduce the fans to the players on the team.  Lastly, I will be posting the live blog/chat article tomorrow sometime for those who won't be able to attend the TC game but want to hang out with other Stars fans while listening to the radio broadcast or watching on B2.

I've mentioned this a few times on the B³ twitter page, but I want to make sure I mention it here also.  Former Stars defenseman Matt Bartkowski is turning heads with the Boston Bruins and is fighting for a roster spot.  The B's have cut a number of players during training camp, but Bart is still on the roster and playing well in their preseason games.  The B's just recently cut down to 25 players, and will cut down to 23 before the regular season begins.  Bartkowski has earned a spot on the roster and will travel with the team this weekend to Ireland where the Bruins will face the Belfast Giants in Belfast, Ireland this Saturday.  From the articles I've read, Bart has a very good shot at making the Bruins final roster and starting the regular NHL season with Boston.

Former Stars goaltender Jared Coreau looks to compete for the starting goaltender position at Northern Michigan University.  Click here to read more.

Stars forward Austin Hervey is the first 2012 commitment for the Western Michigan University hockey club.  Click here to read more.

Former Stars defenseman Jake Newton played well for the NHL Anaheim Ducks in their preseason games, but was recently reassigned to their AHL minor league club.

Former Stars forward Chris Vande Velde also performed well in the preseason for his NHL club (Edmonton Oilers), but was recently sent down to their AHL club.  Click here to read more.

At the "Meet the Stars" event last night at Heidelberg's, there was a new player in attendance that was not in uniform at the Fall Classic.  His name is Teemu Tiitinen ('92), a 5'11" 180 pound forward who lists his hometown as Suwanee, GA but is originally from Finland.  Last season, Tiitinen played for the Dallas Stars (U-18 Midget Major) and recorded 38 points (22g, 16a) in 48 games, along with 66 PIM's.  Recently released Stars forward Jeff McMinimy also played for the U-18 Dallas Stars last season.  Tiitinen, a former USHL draft pick of the Youngstown Phantoms, also played four preseason games for the Phantoms this month.  I am unaware if the Stars traded for Teemu, or if the Phantoms released him and the Stars picked him up.

ESPN 1480AM will continue to be the broadcast home of the Lincoln Stars.  Click here to read more.

Still no word yet on who will be wearing the "C" and the "A's" for the Lincoln Stars this season.  It was previously reported that the players would vote for the team captains.  Under former head coach Jimmy McGroarty, the coaches picked the team captains.  As soon as that information is released, we will post it here.

Also, I have not heard anything more in regards to head coach Chad Johnson returning to the team.  I've received a number of emails asking me if I knew anything more, and I don't.  Hopefully Chad can get healthy quick, and rejoin the team.

According to Brent Wagner of the LJS, foward Kacper Guzik was released by the Stars to make room for Teemu Tiitinen. Sorry to see Guzik go, as he was another player I was really looking forward to watching this season. Loved his intensity on the ice. Good luck to him in the future.

Also reported by Brent, a number of Stars will be out with injuries for the TC game tomorrow. Josh Berge, Garrett Peterson, Brad Wilhelm, Jared Hanson, and Cole Martin will not play. Futures pick Brad Hawkinson was called up and will play this Friday for the Stars.
