B³ Weekend Preview - Fargo Force & Team USA U-17

The Lincoln Stars will  play their final two game homestand of the season this Friday and Saturday night, as the Fargo Force and Team USA U-17 visit the IceBox.  The Stars are coming off a disappointing 6-4 loss to the Des Moines Buccaneers this past Wednesday night at the IceBox.  The  Stars have lost seven straight home games, and continue to occupy last place in the USHL West Division with a record of  14-32-8 (36 points).  The Stars have only six games remaining in the regular season with three games at home, and three games on the road.  The Stars have a home record of 6-17-4, worst in the USHL.

First up for the Black and Blue this weekend will be Fargo Force.  The Force are in second place in the USHL West Division with a record of 35-13-5 (75 points), only 3 points behind division leading Omaha Lancers (78 points).  This will be the fifth and final time the Stars and Force face each other this season.  Fargo has won three of the previous four games against Lincoln, although the Stars have played the Force very tough the last three games.

Saturday night, the Stars will battle the young guns of Team USA U-17.  The U-17 squad consists of some of the best home-grown hockey talent under the age of 17.  The last time these teams faced off against each other, the U-17 squad beat the Stars 5-2.  The Stars outshot Team USA U-17 in that game 43-33, but wound up losing to the upstart youngsters.  The U-17 squad has lost many more games in the USHL this season than they have won, but they are playing much better now that earlier this season.

The puck will drop at 7:05pm for both games this weekend.  With only three home games remaining, it would be really nice to see the Stars finish the season on a positive note in front of the IceBox faithful.

Go Stars.

Note:  Make sure you stick around after the game Saturday night for the Stars annual "Jerseys Off Our Backs" auction.  The Stars will be wearing special jerseys designed by trainer Corey Courtney during the game against Team USA U-17.  After the game, the Stars will auction off those game-worn jerseys to the highest bidder, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.  This is always a very fun event, so make sure you check it out.  Even if you don't have the cash to blow on a jersey, it's fun to watch all of the bidding.  Quick question for all the blog readers out there...which jersey will be auctioned off for the highest amount?

Sorry for the abbreviated weekend preview. This has been a crazy week, and I just haven't had much time at all to devote to the blog. I hope to see a good turnout at the IceBox this weekend. Come out and support the Stars these last few games!

Right now, my money is on Shine's sweater. Memories are short this season, and he's been the hottest player lately.

Norfolk will be representin' in section L both nights this weekend. The guys have played their hearts out all season, and deserve to finish this tough season with a nice win streak to give them some momentum and encouragement for next season.
I think it is also worth noting the remarkable loyalty of the fans this season too. I don't know if we will lead attendance again this year, but I would be willing to bet the Stars faithful will be near the top. Just another reason why Lincoln, and the Ice Box have the best fans in hockey!

See you all tonight, snow or no snow!
Go Stars!

NF : I agree with you on Shiner being one of the big auction items...but I also think that Brun-ee's/Hibb's/Pete-ee's will go high...

USHL.COM lists attendance so far as :

1)Lincoln @ 111,376 (27 games w/ 4,125 avg)
2)Indiana @ 96,715 (26 games w/ 3,719 avg)
3)Sioux Falls @ 87,304 (27 games w/ 3,233 avg)

so of course STARS fans are the best fans in hockey !

the greatest fans in the USHL will have the chance to see 2 great coaches as they come to town this weekend. Teamwork, putting themselves in position without the puck and quick tic tac toe passing to the open man will showcase the talent that comes to town this weekend. I would love to know the record of TEAM USA in the last quarter of the USHL season as the development and teaching of these youngsters is seen as they advance to the end of the season. Des moines is another team that showed us commitment to the development of young players may not lead the lead in W's but it will help these young players excel at the end of the season and get noticed for college scholarships. Guentzel and Parise do a wonderful job instilling confidence in these youngsters and we got to see how confident and successful they were against the Stars especially late in the game. The Stars once again lead the league in penalties and it is no coincidence that is one of the reasons we have lost so many games. Look for a disciplined team to play us head to head when we are 5 on 5 and take advantage of when we go to the box. You have to wonder if we are getting beat or beating ourselves when we never fail to "take the bait" of extracurricular action in front of our own net or the net of our opposition.Watch the way our opposition is coached on the bench and what goes on when timeouts are called. You will notice all the coaches helping out and offering advice. It is no accident that these teams are both on the rise and it has everything to do with hockey discipline and taking advantage of opportunities
