Obviously we won't be having a live blog today, but I will be near a computer and will be able to approve comments pretty quickly after they're posted (starting at 2:30...that's when my class starts :)).So although it won't be the same, feel free to leave comments periodically throughout the game. I should be checking it at least every couple minutes or so, starting at 2:30. Think of it as live blogging on tape delay.
Great idea, BT. I'm at work, but I'll be following the game via the Pointstreak boxscore. After the loss last night, it would be nice if the Stars pulled out a win against the U-18 team this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention this in the U-17 postgame report, but Jarod Mermis will miss the next two games due to suspension. Mermis was involved in a fight late in the game last night. Because the fight took place with less than 5 minutes remaining in the third period, Mermis (and the U-17 player he fought) was suspended two games.
ReplyDeleteBrent Tate and Josh Berge are still inured, and Nate Baumbick was traded to the NAHL. Not a bare-bones roster, but damn near. Should have no healthy scratches for the game this afternoon.
Looks like pointstreak is not working. Anyone listening on radio?
ReplyDeleteBrent Wagner had a funny post on the Blue Line Blog:
ReplyDelete"Stars assistant coach Nick Fouts said during the pregame interview that Lincoln may have taken Team USA under-17 lightly during the first period on Thursday. How a last-place team takes another team lightly, let alone one with some of the best players in the nation, I'll never know."
No score, end of first, Stars kill 2 penalties, shots 10-9 Lincoln.
ReplyDeletePointstreak appears to be working now.
ReplyDelete0-0 at the end of the first period.
Shots 11-10 in favor of Team USA.
1-0 Team USA, Stars on power play
ReplyDeleteBrandon Saad scored 21 seconds in. Uggh.
ReplyDeleteSaad played for the Youngstown Phantoms last season when they were in the NAHL. He's a blue-chipper for sure, and could be a first or second round NHL draft pick.
ReplyDeleteDouble minor on Shine for checking from behind and a game misconduct.
ReplyDeleteShine double minor-checking from behind
ReplyDeleteAnother penalty on Lincoln. Power plays now 4-1 in favor of Team USA.
ReplyDeletespoke too soon. 5-1 now.
ReplyDeleteWow. You can't afford to give the U-18 team any extra chances on the PP. Gotta play smarter than that.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how accurate Poinstreak is with shots right now, but according to that Team USA has only put 4 shots total on net this period and they've had 3 power plays.
ReplyDelete5 minute major--Team USA
ReplyDeleteanother penalty-Team USA, Stars 2 man advantage for 1:58
ReplyDelete1-0 USA, end of the second
ReplyDeleteUgh, also, elevator music on commercial breaks is awful...
ReplyDeletewow the Poinstreak operators are completely inept up there in Ann Arbor. The 5-minute major has yet to show up. Originally a Stars penalty was listed as Tyler Deresky for some on-ice infraction, which has now been changed to Jon Puskar (abuse of official). How do you screw that up? I can't listen on radio, so please keep the updates coming for those who are, because Poinstreak is terrible today. We'll see if this changes, but according to Poinstreak, Team USA did not have a shot for about the final 12 minutes of the period. Somehow I question that.
ReplyDeletewait, now it's Puskar for slashing at 7:55. Originally Deresky for something, then Puskar for abuse of officials, now Puskar for slashing. My head hurts.
ReplyDeleteMcCarron got a game misconduct for head-butting? Haven't ever seen that one on Poinstreak before.
ReplyDelete2-0, Team USA
ReplyDelete3-0 USA
ReplyDeleteIt was Saad again, on the PP
ReplyDeleteHaving trouble following everything, but it sounds like Stars are having a lot of trouble staying out of the box too. Doesn't sound like it's a huge impact, US is only 1/6 (or 1/7?) on the PP, but not good for momentum
ReplyDeleteLincoln shut out for the sixth time this season, which ties a franchise record.
ReplyDeleteStars lose sixth straight, 3-0 to Team USA.
All over, 3-0. Tinordi (USA) got a 2 and 10 near the end, Melbye claims he was cheap shoting the whole game.
ReplyDeleteContinuing to break records left and right. It was hard to tell, but it seemed like the Stars' hearts were there, they just couldn't seem to get shots in. Coreau was 24/27, not a stellar effort, but you can't win without goals.
ReplyDeleteWow. Stars shutout for the third time in their last six games. Lincoln has scored 5 goals in their last six games.
ReplyDelete12 hour bus ride from Ann Arbor to Des Moines. That's a looooong trip. Gotta get out of this scoring funk.
That's funny, it's been a looooong weekend and it hasn't even started for most of us yet
ReplyDeleteUSA!!! Oh damn we lost. This matchup will always be a bitter sweet thing for me. That Any Iles sho is amazin aint he?
ReplyDeleteForgot the "d" on Andy
ReplyDeleteI went to the 17 game last nite. I know the boys were there the day before, but it sure looked like bus legs to me. We had a real tough time getting the puck out of our own zone compounded by having your 2 best puck moving D playing forward.
ReplyDeleteWould it be fair to say this is Jimmy's first all Jimmy team? I know this is his 3rd year but how many Johnson holdovers? I just do not see any DEVELOPMENT. I'm waiting to see these kids go from point A to point B. I'm not talking about an overager from the CHL. I want to see a youngster take the next step. I like Jimmy's passion and sincerity but have yet seen him be a teacher.
Teacher? Who needs to teach when you can trade away anyone that isn't working out
ReplyDeleteInteresting, if you look at Pointstreak you'll see that both Mermis and the U-17 player are both activated from suspension on the 7th, but if you look at the USA schedule, they don't have another USHL game until the 19th when they get back from Europe. Why is it that Mermis sits out 2 games and the USA player only gets one? Hopefully the USHL will correct that and extend his suspension to cover 2 games.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jofa, i haven't seen much development this year. We are better, but not by much. This is either due to bad teachers or bad students. I have a hard time believing the players aren't listening. Maybe the teaching or development of the players is lacking. Last year i watched a Fargo team start the season as an average to below average team. Coaching quickly developed the talent and they greatly improved. We have talent on our team but we aren't taking the next step in getting better or meshing together. Other teams improve during the year, i haven't seen this. I really feel in the past the coach has gotten lucky and got veterans to come to lincoln (reekie, hill, forfar) and spark the team. These type of players helped our young guys out. This year that didn't happen and we are where we are now. I don't expect to win every game every season, all I ask is that the team be physical and competitive. That's another thing "Bring back the physical play to Lincoln". Did anyone notice the bruisers Johnson had on his team in Fargo. He's got skilled players and then the protectors. I miss that type of hockey in Lincoln.
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing in Ann Arbor is those boy's are treated like china dolls!! I have seen it for 3 yrs! It makes me sick!! When they come to Lincoln they will have a rude awaking!!! Especially with there 75+ fans to our 4000 + fans!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreen Bay lost to Tri-City 3-0 at home Friday night. But David Gerths was named the 1st star of the game. He had 4 shots on goal (and must have played well otherwise) to earn the honor. Tri-City got the 3rd star, but GB got the other two. Congrats to David.
ReplyDeleteI like Green Bay alot, but I wish somebody with the proper sized testicles would call the real three stars of the game. We beat them 1-0 in OT and they had all three stars.
ReplyDeleteGreen Bay, Waterloo, and Omaha are notorious for doing that, Jofa. It's a bit disrespectful, in my opinion. The Lancers could get beat 5-0 at home, and all three stars will be from Omaha. So much for integrity.
ReplyDeleteif the lancers were beat 5-0 at home, we know it wasnt by the stars.
ReplyDelete^^Touche.
ReplyDeleteNot this year, anyway.
What do you guys think about the Baumbick trade? The kid was always in Jimmy's doghouse, but why? He has all the size the Stars love, was he that unteachable? Taylor Kypers (sp) was cut over the summer because they felt he wasn't developing. Do you think he could play on this team?
ReplyDeleteI think Baumbick was the odd man out on defense. I was surprised McGroarty stuck with 8 d-men for the majority of the season, so it didn't surprise me at all when Baumbick was moved to the NAHL. With the emergence of Rayner and Clement, there just wasn't a place for Baumbick in the lineup. He may have had the size, but I didn't see much from him other than that.
ReplyDeleteI was always a fan of Kuypers, and was surprised he was cut during tryouts. I think he would have fit in well with this team, but that's in the past. We can "what if" until our faces turn blue, it isn't going to change anything. Regardless of the record, I hope the players continue to work hard and do their best. They deserve a better fate than what has been dealt to them this season.
Maybe the BLBC and Stars organization needs to have another "Meet the Stars" night like they have at the beginning of the year so the fans can meet the "NEW" team. 20 players have come and gone during the current season. We are in year 3 of the current coaching staff and I have a lot of questions marks on the coaching, recuiting and scouting that takes place.
ReplyDeleteEven in the winter sometimes you here crickets. Whenever the dreaded "C" word is brought up it gets verrrry quiet.
