Congrats to David Backes!

I wanted to make sure I mentioned this on the blog, because it's a great honor given to a former Lincoln Stars player.

Former Stars forward David Backes has been chosen to represent Team USA at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.  Backes played two seasons for the Stars (2001-03), and recorded 90 points in 87 games for Lincoln.  Backes then went on to play three seasons for University of Minnesota-Mankato before playing for the St. Louis Blues of the NHL.
Backes, 25, has played in all 40 games for the Blues this season collecting 19 points (nine goals, ten assists) and 52 penalty minutes. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native has donned the red, white and blue for the past three consecutive World Championships. From 2007-2009, Backes amassed nine points with two goals, seven assists and 74 penalty minutes.
 Congrats to David!
