New goaltender: Matt Green

Thanks go out to a friend who was nice enough to send me this info. We all knew this was going to happen this week...and here it is. The Lincoln Stars have acquired goaltender Matt Green from the BCHL. Matt ('90) played in 10 games for the Langley Chiefs, and posted a 4-3-1 record with a 2.67 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. He's 6'1" 175 pounds from Buffalo, NY. Sound familiar? A very similar background to former Stars goaltender Anthony Borelli, who was also from the Buffalo area, and played in the BCHL before being acquired by the Stars.

Matt was a someone the Stars coaches were familiar with, as he participated at the Lincoln Stars tryout camp this past June, which were held in Omaha. He played on the red team, and made it to the camp all-star game as well.

I don't know much more about Green other than what I found on the BCHL website, and what I remember of him at camp. If any of my readers know anything more, please leave a comment below. Thanks.

Go Stars.

Thanks for the update Yeti. I still have my rosters from tryouts - can't seem to get rid of anything:) Per the roster, Matt played with Brent Tate on Little Caesars last season. This is the link to his stats there, for whatever relevance that may have:

A trivial point, but interesting to me is the "1" in the 4-3-1 record is a tie. They must not have shootouts in BCHL. Good to have another goalie on board. Go Stars!

Thanks for the link, starstruck. If Matt played for Little Caesars, he would have been teammates with John McCarron as well.

Also, I noticed that the link you posted states that Matt's hometown is Williamsville, NY...which happens to be the hometown of former Stars goaltender Steven Racine as well.

Small world.

IMO the Stars have a chance for a four point weekend. Des Moines and Waterloo are beatable. Going to take some help from the crowd. Get to the games and cheer these guys on. Let's show the team (and McGroarty) we stand behind them through good and bad. This could be the weekend things gets turned around. If not, remember, they are kids trying their best. Regardless of what you think of our coach, he does not want to lose either and is doing his best.

Just looking at the roster on Pointstreak, We have a forward, Michael Pereria, that I've never noticed before. Anyone know anything about this?

Justin,

There were some rumors floating around last week in regards to Pereira. He is a UMASS recruit, and it was reported on a UMASS blog that he was coming to Lincoln. A day after that report was made, it was stated that he was going to report to a different boarding school than where he was currently at (the head coach was canned). I didn't report it here because it was still unknown what was going on.

http://fearthetriangle.wordpress.com/2009/11/04/pereira-to-the-ushl/

Today on that same blog, they are reporting that Pereira is still going to transfer to a different boarding school.

"USHR is reporting that recruit Mike Pereira will be transferring from South Kent to The Gunnery as a result of the coaching change at Kent."

http://fearthetriangle.wordpress.com/2009/11/11/marcou-natl-potm-runner-up-pereira-transfers-bracketology-seriously/

So I have no clue what is going on. Poinstreak says he's on Lincoln's roster, the USHR is saying he's staying out east. We'll have to wait and see.

Another name being floated around is Garrett Clement who is also from South Kent

It was also pointed out to me that #20 Jared Hanson is no longer listed on the Pointstreak roster for Lincoln. Not sure about that one either.

I remember Green from tryouts as he was one of 2 goalies drafted by the Stars this spring, the other one being Racine. he was on the Red team along with Taylor Kuypers, David Gerths, Jarrod Mermis and Matt White. in the games I saw him play, he gave up a lot of goals. was not too impressed with him but then what the heck do I know? LOL

Williamsville,Amherst/Buffalo, New York is a breeding ground for great goaltenders--we call it the Dominik Hasek factor. Matt Green (90), Steve Racine (91), Lyle Rocker (88-Robt. Morris), Tyzowski (90-Holy Cross), Borelli (Brown), Komm (91-Northfield Mt. Hermon), Berafato (93-Jr. Sabres), Cullen (91-OHL) and Knapp (Miami OH)who is from Rochester but played a good amount of his hockey in Buffalo. All if these kids have a legit shot at D-I if not already playing it.

win or lose i will always be a stars fan. i may post comments on things that i see in our guys and the team as well.
either way it gives me a chance to vent and let things go. we will never win all our games in a season but i do feel its ok to to say what we feel.
what good does it do if we just drink the kool aid and dont ever let our opinions be known?
i went to the booster club meeting and the captains were there. these guys are top notch kids and will be winning alot of games this year. it does take a team effort to make things turn around and we have the right program in place to make that happen.
the best question from the meeting... who was the best dressed player at the halloween party?
for some reason it seems like the rookies have to dress up in drag...hmmmm not sure i needed to know that one!!!

Not sold on Green, only so-so numbers in the MWEHL (and as a last yr midget) and not the main guy in BCHL...time will tell...
