Pregame Report - Tri-City at Lincoln 10/31

Muahahahahahahahaha! It's Halloween night at the Ice Box!

The Tri-City Storm will invade the haunted confines of the Ice Box tonight, as the Stars look to rebound from Friday night's shutout loss to the Sioux Falls Stampede, and exact some revenge against the Storm. This will be the second time the Stars and Storm have faced off against each other, with Tri-City winning the first matchup in Kearney back on 10/20. In that game, the Storm skated past the Stars by a score of 4-1. Coach McGroarty was so upset about the effort in that game that he held a midnight practice at the Ice Box when the players got back into town.

The Stars again will be shorthanded tonight, with injuries to Steven Racine, Andrew Ammon, Jared Hanson, Brent Tate, and Will Rayner. Also, forward David Gerths will not be in the lineup as he is participating in the Junior A Tournament in Canada for Team USA. It will be a skeleton crew lineup tonight, so expect to see some defensemen playing forward. With Racine out, Jared Coreau will be in net for Lincoln tonight. The backup goaltender will be Nick Degarmo (sp?), who is on the Junior Stars hockey club. Stars forward Will Suter played last night for Lincoln, and I assume he'll play again tonight. The forward from Omaha, NE is a '92 forward for the Russell Stover U-18 hockey club.

Faceoff is at 7:05pm.

I wish I had more time to devote to this pregame report, but I have a million things to do before the game tonight. I hope to see all my Stars friends at the Ice Box tonight! Halloween night at the Ice Box is always a big party. Make sure you stay in your seat during the second intermission so you can watch the costume contest held on the ice.

Go Stars!

Cool photo! I thought Coach said in postgame that Brodie Reid also would be out again tonight :( and not sure about status for Tuesday. Yeti, your things to do better include gathering your hockey gear together, they may be calling you up - Go Stars!!

I am having an issue with B2. When trying to purchase the game, I get an error/message that says I need to verify my email address as they do not match when they really do match. I have tried other email addresses and I get the same message. Does anyone know if there is something not set quite right with my computer? Of course B2 says this is something they can not fix. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

With this team it looks like we don't need to worry about getting playoff tickets.

^^^It's early and half our team is injured. Just ride it out and we'll be okay.

i really dont know what to say right now....the boys get out hustled out played out everythinged all the time....sure there were points tonight when they were more physical but c'mon can someone please win a race to the puck. That is all about effort and maybe im just blind but i'm not seein it. i'm a stars fan through and through but the boys look pretty sorry right now. Props to George for tryin to light a fire under the team with the "fight" but when are the vets gona step up? no excuses for getting out played for 60 minutes a night. Hopin for the best on tuesday but to be honest it's looking pretty bleak.

even with racine healthy coreau is in the net, i believe he will be our starter this year

All right...first of all we have not had our whole team healthy the entire season. If you notice the boys are playing different positions then what they are used to. "D" playing forward, centers playing wingers, wingers playing center also playing there off wing. Yes these boys should all know how to play all positions but there is no consistency in the lines and if you noticed everyone is playing with everyone because of all the injuries. If you know anything about hockey thats like playing pond hockey in your backyard!! Give the guys a break lets wait and see what happens when we actually have our team back! Looks like Reid will be back this week and Gerths too! As far as vets go..Hibbs and Brunie have been pretty solid. McCarron stepped up big time last night, Petey played better can't find the net though, and Siers played well. that's it for vets with Gerths being out. Not many vets this year. GO STARS!!!!!!!!!

Help> How many players can be on a team? How many can they suit up during the games?

Anonymous said...

I believe 23 on the roster, 20 dress for a game. 2 Goalies, 12 forwards, 6 "D". But Jimmy has been known to mix those numbers up, "D" and forwards.

It's pretty tough to watch right now but like the previous poster said, when you have as many key players missing and adding new players and player playing different positions, it's pretty tough to win games at this level and it certainly impacts special teams. You need to have chemistry and it's tough to have chemistry right now when all the lines and positions are scrambled. Plus a little puck luck wouldn't hurt either - how many pipes did we hit last night? One or two of those go in and it could've been a different game. Give the guys credit for trying and they will weather the storm and once everyone is up and running, I think they will be a very solid and competitive team again. Go Stars!!!

I think you are allowed 23 on your "active" roster. Because we have 2 players on our injured reserve roster, they dont count towards that active roster because they cant suit up to play.

Well, it certainly was a nightmare last night...very fitting for Halloween night.

I have to agree with the above posters about being patient with the players. We had a ton of guys out with injuries. Tate, Hanson, Ammmon, Rayner, West, Reid, Racine...and Gerths out playing for Team USA. That's a LOT of talent missing from the ice.

This team is going through some growing pains right now, and all the injuries just compound the problems. They've proven they can beat the top teams in the USHL. It's just going to take some time to get everyone on the same page. I know I sound like a broken record, but we just have to be patient with this group. You can't replace guys like Henry, Sdao, Newton, and Dalzy overnight. It's going to take some time.

Remember, the regular season is a marathon...not a sprint.

I'm not sure I'll have time today to write up a postgame report. I think I'll have time tomorrow to do it. Until then, keep the faith. Go Stars.

This season is a mess so far. Most of the injuries can be attributed to being out of game shape coming in. Strained backs, etc. Sure doesn't seem like Jimmy has control of this team. We seem to have a lot of players that question why we get rid of one of the hardest working most talented forwards in Chartier but keep some of our vets that do nothing but take stupid penalties. We've been told by numerous players in the past that they learned more from Johnson than their college or high school coaches combined. All I've heard from players about Jimmy is he's good at having meltdown between periods. Time to stop yelling and teach these kids some puck control.

I wish that all the people complaining about the team would just save their time and money and stop going to the games, Move on from the Charch trade, He is not the only person on the team. If everyone complaining was such a great coach, why aren't you coaching at the USHL level? there have been plenty of openings over the past few years. Why not call up Coach and give him some advice? maybe tell the players what they are doing wrong, I'm sure they'd appreciate the help. Maybe Coach should just send the team home and forfiet the season cuz obviously we'll never get better, lets fire Jimmy I'm sure that will make everything better. Some of the fans this year make me sick. Lets all jump off the bandwagon, no reason to support the team.

Okay knowing how many players can suit up for a game. What I noticed last night is that there were 9 players on the bench and 5 on the ice, so these guys are very tired; not much time to rest before going back out to do another 40 to 60 second shift. We have to give these guys time and support to pull through the injuries and sickness. If I remember correctly this same thing happened a couple years ago where Lincoln started off the season slowly and by Christmas came out to be a great team.

Also i noticed that half way through the game Steve West was out of the game and joined the other scratches. I dont know why, but just saying there is one more player we were short during the game. This is a pretty new team, and obviously when we are playing together and on the same page we play great and can beat great teams (ie Cedar Rapids). All it takes is a little time. Weve had quite a bit of changes in the roster this season. Just give the guys some time to get it together and im sure we will do fine.

What I do know is that this is when the team needs their fan support the most, so if all everyone has is negative comments and blame, they dont need that. We are known as some of the best fans in the league... are we gonna quit that just because our team hasnt had the best start of the season?

I have faith that our team will turn it around and I will always be there to cheer on our team!!! Go STARS!!!

Beat up by those purple people eaters on Halloween sucks! I have done my share of whining, but this string of games has to be disheartening for the players & coaches. I agree with previous posts, the team needs our support. I realize Lincoln has always had a late start compared to other teams, but it seemed like this year those other teams got into the season even earlier & with more intensity than previous years - many practice games, tournaments. When it looked like we were starting to make some progress, injuries took over. A lack of early success does not necessarily forecast where you will end up - last years Fargo team has been pointed to as evidence of that. If the Stars can get healthy, get some confidence back & keep at it, the puck luck will return and some of those "clanks" to the post will land in the net.

Battle through it Stars, you will get there - Go Stars!!

It was fun to see the costumes last night - lots of cute little ones. And Pee-wee Herman was a hoot! Many great ideas - except for that couple who dressed up as Storm fans in Section D :)

For the post complaining about Jimmy and pumping Steve Johnson, I would just say there were many times where Steve Johnson was labeled a hothead and he was known for 3am bag skates after losses on the road. I know many players complained about him too. Look, everyone complains when you're losing and loves you when you're winning. Jimmy is a good hockey coach. We've been so close to playing for the Clark Cup two years in a row now. This time we're playing from behind.

start off with some fun.. i liked all those little costumes as well.. or should i say the short skirts on the people wearing the costumes!!!
you have to love to go to a halloween game at the ice box. plenty to look at!!!

now as far as the team and the game goes.
what i saw was our guys are swarming to the puck. that might sound good but what it looks like is that we have alot of individuals and not team players getting into position.
when that happens we look like we are short handed and it lets a loose puck be controlled by the other team.
we have made big improvements on penalties. take a look on pointstreak, we only had 8 and tri city had 11. but the problem was on a power play, tri city 1 for 4 and us 0 for 7.
we look lost and even gave up really 2 shorties, because the empty netter, tri city only had 4 on the ice to our 5.
that just cant happen, but our guys were probably tired at that point.
during the post game melby said he noticed we were playing the same guys on most lines. that would make even the best guys tired.

the comments on here this time sound like a bunch of liberals... "its not fair" c'mon people this is a game and last time i checked both teams want to win. hockey is not like what the new government is trying to do... make everything the same no matter how you perform.
i know the political take doesnt happen here but i think it fits for the complainers.
the reason i bring this up... if you work hard and give your best effort, you will be rewarded.
in life or a hockey game it is about heart and giving all that you have every time.

i know we have hurt players but any of these guys are in this league for a reason. they are the best at what they do. coach m will get the ship going and we will all be happy soon when the puck bounces our way, and it will!!!!
sorry for the long post but when the whiskey gets in me i start rambling...
long posts mean we love our team.
this time we have alot of love.
