Pregame Report - Lincoln at Sioux Falls 10/30

The Lincoln Stars will travel north on Interstate 29 on Friday to take on the Sioux Falls Stampede at the Sioux Falls Arena. This will be the first time the Stars and the ‘Pede have faced off against each other this season. Lincoln is coming off a very impressive 3-1 road win against the Roughriders in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Stars will be looking to win their second straight road game against a very good Sioux Falls hockey team. The Stampede got off to a hot start by winning four of their first five games of the season, while outscoring their opponents 23-11 during that five game stretch. Included in that five game stretch was a 9-1 drubbing of the Waterloo Blackhawks. The ‘Pede are struggling a bit as of late, having lost two straight at home. Sioux Falls is currently 4-1-2 on the season (10 points), good enough for third place in the USHL West Division. Lincoln is currently 4-5 on the season (8 points), good enough for fifth place in the USHL West Division.

This should be another good road test for the Stars, as the Stampede always seem to play well against Lincoln (excluding recent playoff matchups). Gone from the ‘Pede is goaltender Eric “Where’s my pacifier?” Hartzell, who has moved on to stopping pucks throwing tantrums at the collegiate level. Goaltenders Clay Witt (returning vet) and Lino Chimienti have performed relatively well for SF so far this seaon. Chimienti, a native of Laval, Quebec Canada, has done very well early on in his time between the pipes for Sioux Falls. Chiemienti is currently 3-0 on the season, with a 2.00 goals against average, and a .914 save percentage. Offensively, the ‘Pede are led by forwards Michael Voran (8 points) and Matt Bailey (7 points). Tough guy Marcus Perrier is a guy who is not afraid to drop the mitts and bang. The native from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Perrier recorded 128 penalty minutes last season in 48 games. The Stampede play on a smaller ice surface than most teams in the USHL, so it’s a rink the Stars have had recent success at due to their overall size and physicality.

The Stars continue to have a number of players out with injury, so it could be a bare bones lineup tonight against the Stampede. Forwards Brent Tate, Jared Hanson, and Andrew Ammon will all be sidelined, while defenseman Will Rayner is also out. As reported a few days ago, forward Brett Chartier was traded to the Green Bay Gamblers for a draft pick, while forward Andrew O’Leary was traded to the EJHL to be closer to home. The Stars did pick up a forward in return for O’Leary, and his name is Pat George. Because of all the injuries affecting the Stars, George will be in the lineup this weekend for Lincoln. Affiliate player Ryan Dzingel was sent home after a very impressive weekend with the Stars last week, but I have been told that he will return to Lincoln to play for the Stars in January.

Faceoff is at 7:05pm.

Note: Make sure you stop by the blog tonight as I am going to be testing out a new way for all of us to communicate with each other during the game. I’m pretty pumped about this, so it should be a good time. I’ll post that article around 4 or 5pm tonight.

Go Stars.

Has anyone tried B-2 lately? I did the first game and it stunk. I would like to try it again tonight, but really do not want to wast 6 bucks for nothing. Any experience anyone has had recently with B-2 is appreciated.

Thanks

I haven't tried B2 since last season, Travis...and I doubt I'll ever use them again. Just too many problems with crappy video quality...or no video at all. Sometimes I'd get the opposing radio announcer too. Just not worth the $7, in my opinion. I don't know if they've improved at all this season.

I've watched the last 4 or 5 games on B-2 and it has been good lately. The first game had a terrible video feed, constantly freezing up, but I've had no problem since then.

I'm not ever doing B2 again, but I will say from the few games I have watched Sioux Falls has some of the better quality and camera angles of anyone.

Has David Gerths left yet for the Junior A tournament - hope not as that would certainly leave spot open!

Anonymous,

I forgot all about that. The Junior A Tournament is being held November 1-8 in P.E.I. Canada. I'm betting he won't be in the lineup tonight, unless he plays tonight and leaves first thing tomorrow. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
