Postgame Report - Lincoln at Sioux City 10/3

Final Score: Lincoln 2, Sioux City 0

Stars rookie goaltender Jared Coreau stopped all 25 shots he faced, as the Lincoln Stars shutout the Sioux City Musketeers on the road, 2-0. The win was the first of the regular season for Lincoln. Stars defenseman Steve West scored the game-winning goal late in the second period, with an assist from Tucker Brockett. Forward Brodie Reid added icing on the cake with an empty net goal with 50 seconds remaining in the game to seal the victory. The Muskies outshot the Stars, 25-21. Lincoln went 0-4 on the powerplay, while Sioux City went 0-5 with the man advantage.

Big road win for the Stars, especially after the dismal game last night against Fargo. It was nice to see the guys play disciplined hockey for the most part. In the third period, the Stars did not commit one single penalty. Very impressive. Jared Coreau rebounded nicely after the loss, and made some huge saves in the third period to secure the win. One thing I noticed listening to the game on the radio, was that Mike Melbye mentioned Dominick Shine's name quite often, even during the last few minutes of the game when it was 1-0. Shine is the youngest player on the team, so for Shine to be on the ice at such a critical time of the game, shows that the coaches have a lot of faith in his abilities.

1ST STAR: Coreau, Jared (LIN)
2ND STAR: West, Steve (LIN)
3RD STAR: Brockett, Tucker (LIN)

The Stars will play their first home game of the season next Friday (10/9) at the Ice Box against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Radio announcer Mike Melbye said numerous times during the broadcast tonight that there are only a few tickets left for the home opener, so if you don't have your tickets the Stars ticket office as soon as you can Monday morning. 474-STAR.

Go Stars.

Yes, was @ the game and Shine played a lot. Anyone notice we only dressed 5 D men and then Bruneteau got hurt in the first period so we played the rest of the game w/ 4? Looked like a couple of times Petey may have been helping out w/ the D but I think it says a lot playing most of the game w/ 4 D and only allowing 25 shots and a shutout. Coreau played great, stopping a couple of point blank shots. Also noticed most of the time he had a lot of help in front of the net w/ players blocking shots and clearing the puck!

Overall, I thought it was a great team effort. Cant really name just 1 or 2 players that I thought played the best because I thought they all played great but did think the Hibbs played some great D, Gerths played some good on both ends, also Reid and Shine stood out, but like a said great effort by everyone!

Cant wait until Friday night @ the Ice Box!

P.S. Anyone hear anything about Bruneteau?

I'm not sure why McGroarty decided to only start 5 defenseman, but it could have been a message to the d-men he did scratch to improve their play. Melbye did say on the radio that Petey was playing defense after the injury to Bruneteau.

I haven't heard anything more about the injury to Bruneteau. Melbye talked to McGroarty about it after the game, and McGroarty didn't seem like it was that severe. I would expect him back next weekend.
