Stars Draft Pick Chris Kreider cont...

If you recall last month, I blogged briefly about Chris Kreider. Kreider is a '08 draft pick of the Lincoln Stars. Chris is considered to be the highest rated prep hockey player going into this years NHL draft, and is projected to be a mid-to-late first round NHL draft pick. Kreider is a '91 forward who currently plays hockey for Andover Phillips Academy, in Andover, Massachussetts. He is an '10 Boston College recruit. He is 6'2", 200 pounds and is a left-handed shooting winger/center.

Basically, Kreider has one year of hockey left to play before he starts at Boston College in 2010. There has been some talk of Kreider possibly staying at Andover to finish up his senior year of high school. The Stars own his USHL rights, so if he wanted to play in the USHL next season, it would be for Lincoln.

I have a friend (he runs an east coach hockey prep journal) who told me over the weekend that Kreider is seriously considering playing in the USHL next season. He is also considering playing in the BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League) next season also. Both leagues allow players to retain their college eligibility. This friend of mine was talking to an official who works for an Eastern Conference NHL Team, and this official said that during a pre-draft interview, Kreider said he is seriously considering playing in the USHL or BCHL next season.

Getting this kid to play for the Stars next season would be HUGE! I was hearing rumors that he and his family were leaning on returning to Andover in the Fall, but it appears that he is leaning the other way now. The competition level in the USHL is so much higher than what he would play against in high school, so I'm sure that fact has a lot to do with him looking to further his hockey skill with the USHL or BCHL.

Stay tuned.
