Pregame Report - Green Bay at Lincoln 3/20

The Lincoln Stars will attempt to extend their current two game winning streak as the West Division leading Green Bay Gamblers visit the Ice Box Friday night. This will be the fourth and final time the Stars and Gamblers meet in the regular season. The Gamblers lead the season series, 2-1. The last time the two teams played each other at the Ice Box, the Gamblers blasted the Stars by a score of 8-3. In that 10/18/08 game, there were five separate fights and a total of 93 penalty minutes posted by both teams.

The Gamblers are winners of their last three games, one of which was a 8-4 blowout of the Indiana Ice on 3/17. Green Bay is one of the favorites to win the Anderson Cup this season, and if realized, would be an incredible achievement considering they were statistically the worst team in the USHL last season. New head coach Jon Cooper has the Gamblers playing a very physical, up-tempo style of hockey...which is very similar to the style of hockey the Stars play.

The Stars enter the game Friday night winners of two straight road wins over the Cedar Rapids Roughriders, and the Omaha Lancers. Anthony Borelli started against CR, and got the win...while Kevin Murdock started against the Lancers and got the win in that game. Anthony Borelli has the better numbers against Green Bay this season, but it could be either goaltender to start against the Gamblers tonight. You just never know who Coach McGroarty is going to go with.

This should be a VERY fun game to watch as a fan, as each club is at the top of their respective division. I don't think this game will turn into a brawl-fest, but you never know. At this point in the season, I think both teams are more concerned with playing the best hockey they can than they are with trying to settle any scores with their fists. Both of these teams are gearing up the playoffs, so I believe we'll see that kind of atmosphere tonight. Very physical, low scoring, and great goaltending. I'm really looking forward to this game, as it will be yet another test for the Stars to see if they can hang with the best the East Division can offer.

Faceoff is at 7:05pm

Your thoughts on this game? Can the Stars solve the GB defense? The Stars have only managed to score five goals in three games against the Gamblers this season. Which goaltender starts for Lincoln?

Had this matchup circled since 10/18. No stick penalties, keep their feet moving and I expect the Stars to play well tonight. I would go with Doc tonight and Borelli tomorrow.

Let's clinch the West this weekend!
