Post Game Report - Omaha at Lincoln 3/10

Final Score: Omaha 7, Lincoln 1

Wow. I'm not sure where to even start. The Stars and Lancers played a very exciting first period before it all went downhill for the Stars. Lincoln killed two different five-on-three powerplays in the first period, and seemed to be playing well. Lancers outshot the Stars 11-10 in the first. After that, it was all Omaha. The Lancers scored three goals in the second period, and four goals in the third. Omaha scored two shorthanded goals (one was an empty net goal), and one power play goal in the game. The Stars were an anemic 0-7 on the powerplay.

The effort by the Stars in this game was that bad in the second and third periods. Credit the Lancers for taking it to the Stars all night long. Not to discredit the Lancers efforts, but the Stars played one of their worst games of the season. Just pathetic. As a fan, it was difficult to watch.

The Stars earned three points out of a possible six from their recent three game homestand. In my opinion, considering how inconsistent they played, they were lucky to get those three points. This is not the time of the year to be playing inconsistent, lazy hockey. The playoffs are less than a month away, and a first round exit is likely if things don't get turned around soon.

One confusing thing to me was the Stars again only dressing five defensemen. I swear I saw Kory Kaunisto play some of the game as a defenseman also. Cory Hibbeler and Taylor Kuypers were healthy scratches...again. What's up with that? I just don't understand it.

Honestly folks, I really don't want to waste any more time talking about this game. Road games against Indiana, Chicago, and Cedar Rapids loom this weekend. After that, it's on the road to Counciltucky to play the Lancers next Tuesday. The schedule only gets tougher from here on out. It will be interesting to see how the team responds to this embarrassing loss.

Thoughts? Was it as bad as it seemed?

Thanks for the comments, Travis and anonymous. Much appreciated. Hope you both continue to visit and post.

Did the sun come up today? Can we cancel suicide watch for some Stars fans? It's one game, and I know the Stars and the coaches are working hard to right the wrongs. They'll play better this weekend.
